New Job

Hi Guys, I have been busy with the special needs kids on our sports league and in the progress I have been looking for a new job for awhile now. I had a follow up interview with our County Schools for a bus driving job Friday. Drove the bus around the lot with no problem(no kids on board). Call me crazy but this is all I do is be around kids so the bus may be a perfect fit for all I do ( I would love to have a special need route). Monday I will take a physical and next Friday the first class and a fitness screen. I have been on a raw fruits and veggies (only) diet and workouts for 3 weeks now. I have lost 20 pounds and dropped my blood pressure to a normal level. If I get through all that my last day at my old job will be next Sunday. It is a little scary right now for me, not about the bus driving as I know that that will be ok as I used to drive a mini bus 3 days a week for church, but the fact that I have been at the same place for almost 31 years and it is all I know. My work is going to let my do all of my 5 weeks of vacations in a row while I go through the training, that way if it does not work out I can just go back to where I was. One big change will be that I will have weekends off and that is not the way of bakery life I am used to as I have worked every weekend for 31 years now. Keep me in your thoughts as I go through this new page in my life. Thanks, Billy P.S. If I pass both the Physical and Fitness Screen I told Maw she was taking me to Road House Friday night. No better way to put back on a couple of those pounds.

Hey now Soupy, Be nice. Just because Kentucky has some of the narrowest backroads do not hold that against the Big Yellow Bus

Hang in there with the dieting, driving, testing and all that. It sounds to me like a lot more people than you will benefit if you get those weekends off.
Best wishes pard ........

I have heard I have what is called white coat hypertension. It will be fine at home or if I check it at a drug store but as soon as I go into a doctors office or lab or any other place like that it shots sky high. I took it on Sunday night and it was 113/76 went to the doctor on Monday and it was 144/98 . They took it five times on Monday and I could not get it to come down. I went in Tuesday and it was 139/89 which is still high but the CDL requires only 140/90 or lower. Passed by the skin of my dentures. Sorry Ghost about the diabetes. Would not wish that on anyone. It runs in my family. I quit sweets 3 1/2 years ago just in case I may have it. One of the toughest things I have ever done but I feel allot better now that I quit.

Well I made it through the health screen today. they do not tell you if you pass or fail but it was not something to get all stressed out over. A lot of lifting pulling and other (BS). The first class went ok, I got plenty of HOMEWORK for the weekend. The CDL is in 4 parts on the permit. I need to get that in the next 2 weeks so I can start trainer driving then. The biggest part is on air brakes which is mostly tractor trailer related but still required. Oh well 2 more days at my old job and then I am done there.

I got my CDL permit yesterday. Made a 96 on the air brakes test. That was the one I had trouble with. I will be behind the wheel of a bus next week I think. We still have class all this week. It has been a joy so far. I think after all these years I know what I want to be when I grow up. LOL Billy

Well, I got done with all the classroom things I had to do for my new job and I will be working on driving the bus next week. I about a week and a half I will go and do my driving test and then in about a week after that they want us on our own. You would not belive how short handed they are right now. With all the ones that drive as sub drivers they have 14 of so people, and on Thursday they had 21 people out. Of course it was a pretty day that day and if that made a differance or not I am not sure. I still love it guys and have not woke up by 4 - 4:30 before the alarm goes off every morning and can not wait to go to work. I have never felt this way before. I have dredded going into work for well over 30 years now. Billy
